[CHEATING AND MAKING THIS AN ACTION THREAD TRY AND STOP ME. Leia's been feeling mildly guilty since she put in the paperwork for a transfer to the Bishop. She's leaving the Windrose without a communications officer, now that Amethyst has been sent away, for one thing, and for another, the entire decision was a sudden one.
But there are some things that duty demands, and one of those is if your teenage daughter shows up from the future, you don't abandon her.
The least she can do is let her crewmates know. She finds Misty in the kitchen and clears her throat.]
I wanted you to know--I've put in a transfer request to the Bishop.
[Misty was busy grinding... Something. Herbs? Spices? Perhaps it is best not to ask. At first, she looks up with a smile for Leia but when Leia announces that she's leaving, Misty's face falls and she drops her pestle with a loud thunk on the counter.]
No! You can't leave... We were just... Don't you like us?
[Well, that's not the reaction she expected. Misty's always been a little...airy...but she never struck Leia as the sort to react so strongly to something as small as a ship transfer.
What feels small to Leia, though, might not be for her friend.]
I do--I do. [Note to self: Break it a little more gently next time. If she can figure out how.] But circumstances--well, they changed. Suddenly.
[Leia freezes at the question--if it can be called a question at all. Don't ask, she wants to say, but people are going to find out. She might as well be the one to tell them.
She sits down at the galley table, summoning all her energy in hopes that she doesn't sound as uncertain as she feels about this.]
...I have a daughter, apparently. She's from my future.
[... okay almost never have a reason for it. Misty’s still upset at losing Leia, but her anger almost immediately dissipates. In fact, she goes so far as to hug Leia, throwing her arms around her shoulders.]
Well of course you have to go to her!
[She pulls back and grips Leia’s hands emphatically.]
She’s lucky to have such a good mama.
[What’s that like, having a family who gives a shit about you, even when they never even knew you existed?]
[The way Misty's emotions turn on a dime is intense, to say the least, but at least she seems a little less miserable. And the hug is sweet of her. When she pulls away, Leia gives her a tentative smile.]
She's more than half my age. I've got a lot to learn about parenting--and fast.
[And it's not something Leia would have thought of. The perpetual tangled drama of her family ties isn't something she wants to share, for the most part...but this would be something small. Mostly unrelated.]
[Now that he's had a chance to breathe and take care of himself, he has a favor to ask - ]
Hey, Misty? You probably noticed since I wasn't in the Center yesterday, but some things came up. Would it be possible to uh, postpone Eid and maybe keep an eye on things for me?
[He gets quiet as he tries to figure out how to explain all of this...]
You saw Clay's post, right? There was a dragon attack yesterday, and I got sorta-kinda wrapped up in the whole thing. I'm not hurt [anymore], but a lot of my friends were, so Dr. Crusher and I've been looking after them.
No kidding? Think I could watch next time you're making one of those?
[Beverly might not be all about the magic, but Stefan's had a lifelong fascination with their abilities. He's even letting awe slip into his voice because um holy crap. Potions?? Sign him up.]
[At times like this, Stefan can't believe that he can simply head down the hall and bam, he can snuggle up with Misty or even just visit her room to chat. He's never gonna miss those constant shuttle ride. But he needs to talk, more than ever, and she's one of the few he trusts to give him an honest, unbiased opinion. Especially when it concerns another, important witch.
[Stevie, as always, is singing softly in the background while Misty hangs out in her room. She's been slowly working her way through a Co'kal manual on growing plants in space. Like most of their writings, it's overly technical but she's determined to get through it, to help make the Paisley's garden the best it can be.
For now, though, she rolls over in her bed, sets the book on her night stand, and calls out to Stefan:]
Thanks, [he says, crossing over the threshold and taking his shoes off by the door.]
I... um... Is there any way we could turn Stevie off for a bit? [He takes a deep breath, folding his arms and trying his best to look her in the eye. The effort's failing.] I uh - there's something I need to talk to you about.
[He flops down onto the bed, scooting back a little so that he can lie in Misty's lap. Perhaps that's not the best course of action, but Stefan isn't exactly in the right state of mind to think or reflect on it.]
Yeah, um... [He sighs.] Alex came back today, and she remembers everything. About the Fleet, about our friends, about... us. What we used to be.
I don't know. [He wants some kind of magic, one-size-fit-all answer to the dilemma he's wrestling with. It would make everything so much easier.] Is that bad?
I loved her. I loved her so much that I wasn't listening to how I might not be in love with her, and I don't - I don't know what to do if she wants to try again.

Out of curiosity, what kind of potions were you thinking of?

It just helps skin and bones regrow, stuff like that.
